Holding on to God’s Word
Everybody is going through something! Whether it be a storm, a trial, a hardship, a battle or a dark night of the soul. Peter tells us not to be surprised when these things happen as if it were a strange thing. (1 Peter 4:12) Paul tells us it’s common to all when these things happen. (1 Corinthians 10:13) When these things happen, don’t give up, give out or give in… but know that God loves you, have faith in Him, He has not forgotten you, and stay in the Word! Don’t let the situation you face or the emotion you feel blind you to His Word and His promises!
When the Apostles were caught in the storm on the sea they were afraid and thought they were going to sink. They were even more afraid when they saw Jesus walking on the water as He came to them thinking He was a ghost! They didn’t recognize their Lord because 1. Fear gripped their heart and crippled their faith and blinded their eyes to Jesus, 2. They were not expecting Him because they were too focused on the storm, 3. They forgot about His love and compassion and care for them, And most importantly, 4. They forgot His Word and promise; they were going to the other side just as Jesus said. They did not hold fast His Word nor did they remember it. They weren’t going down. They would have drowned in fear before they drowned in the water.
Jesus could have stilled the storm at anytime but He wanted His followers to know Him in the storm as well as on the mountaintop. Jesus is raising up a people who will trust Him in the storm and cling to His faithful Word in every situation. He will always fulfill His Word!
“Remember your Word to your servant in which you have made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction that your promise gives me life”. (Psalm 119:49-50) “Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.” (Psalm 119:76) “Holdfast the faithful Word.” (Titus 1:9) Hold on to His Word because he will always hold on to you!
