Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself…

Daniel 1:8

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the King’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore, he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”

Go Daniel! What a stand of faith! Daniel valued purity and spiritual cleanliness… even to the point of risking death or punishment to stay right with God. The phrase “not defile” means not to do anything that would produce negative results. “Defile” also means to make unclean, to corrupt and contaminate, and to violate the sanctity of something.

Today, let’s pray that we too would not do anything that would defile our walk before God and that we would value personal purity and holiness. If we have defiled ourselves in a certain area, ask God to wash us from any uncleanness and corruption from the world and self. Let’s repent with tears if need be, and God is quick not only to forgive, but to make things new. Today is a brand new day, a new start, a new beginning, a new chance to live our life. Be grateful and receive the newness of life that is in Jesus Christ!
