Nourished by Christ

Israel has a long history of the victory of God’s faithfulness. But they also have a long history of doubt and unbelief. One time they asked, “Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?” (Psalm 78:19) In other words, they were doubting if God could take care of them in a hard place? Can God furnish what they need in the storms and trials? King David, assured of God’s care and provision, proclaimed, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies” (Psalm 23:5)

God’s table is the place of spiritual nourishment for the believer. That’s where we get the “True Bread” that gives life… He is the Bread of Life that will satisfy every hunger and every thirst. (John 6:32-35) He rains down manna upon His people and satisfies the desire of every living thing. He truly is our nourishment… our life.

But just as we can get malnourished physically, we can also get malnourished spiritually. Just as we need to eat daily, so must we feed on Christ daily… not just on Sunday mornings. We must daily come into His presence, daily read His Word, daily pray and daily serve. There is our strength. Also, watch out for spiritual junk food that we can so easily fill up on. Those things that look and taste good, but have no lasting value or spiritual nutrients. Those things that are “lite” without the meat of God’s Word that clogs up our spiritual arteries and cause a degenerative work on the inside. Also, watch out for those food “rushes”… those spiritual experiences that are all hype and show but without the presence and power of God. They are usually short lived and empty and can leave you still searching and looking for the real thing.

Today, you have a place at His table. Take the time to come, sit and dine with Him. You don’t have to look elsewhere. “Be nourished in the Words of faith” (Luke 24:35) regarding the words that come from Jesus… “His mouth is most sweet, He is altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16) be filled today!
