What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for?

It was a time when the Philistines were coming against Israel and Saul was king. However, Saul was not in a good place… he just came from giving an unlawful sacrifice by not waiting for Samuel, he had no swords or weapons to give to his depleted army, and he was just sitting under a pomegranate tree with 600 of his men all around him. Knowing the Philistines were very close, Saul just stayed there… waited for something to happen… and wasted precious time that could have been used for victory.

However, his son Jonathan, could not sit around and wait any longer. He and his servant went towards a Philistine garrison that was nearby. Jonathan knew the times were perilous and there was a sense of urgency about him. He just did not want to wait for something to happen and then he would respond to it… not this warrior! There is a time to wait, as God directs… but there is also a time to get up and go forward. Jonathan approached the garrison with his servant and said, “Come let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.” (1 Samuel 14:6)

The Philistines were defeated and as they ran from Jonathan, all of Israel that were hiding in caves were encouraged and joined in the battle. All those Hebrews that were with the Philistines came back to Israel and joined the fight. Even Saul was encouraged, got up and chased the Philistines.

Are you ready to join the “Jonathan Company”? This is the time to rise up and take the land back from the enemy. For many, the time of waiting is over… and even long past. Rise up Church! The time is now! What are you waiting for?
