"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

Mark 4:9

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

When Jesus taught about the principles of faith or when He expounded on the parables, He often said, “take heed how you hear” or “He who has ears to hear let him hear”. Jesus was not referring to physical ears but was giving an admonition, a warning, a command and a focus. Jesus wanted to make sure that whoever was listening to Him were thinking about what He said, giving their utmost attention to it, taking the teaching seriously and applying it to their lives.

‘We should always value what God imparts to us and hold it deep in our hearts. We should desire and crave the words of Jesus, the deep things of Christ. We should have a desire to know the truth of the Word and should listen and pay attention when He communicates to us. We must hear in order to apply the truth to our lives and let that truth change us, grow and mature us, and be established in the Word of God. God wants us to hold on to every word, remember and not forget what He says. With that should come the desire to obey what we hear as the guiding principle of our life.

So today, are we listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us? Are we yearning to hear and obey? Do we take serious how we hear the Word of God? Let our meditation be, “Lord, open our ears that we may hear!”
